So.
I am currently rereading The Bartimaeus Trilogy (it was on a whim, and now I'm hooked)- and I'm rediscovering why precisely I love these books so much. Simply the scathing wit and remarks of djinni Bartimaeus is refreshing as a character and the story flows so easily. The setting of the world in which the book is set in is absolutely fascinating. More updates are likely to come as I zip through the books. :p
I just found out that the rights for the series has been sold and they are in fact making a movie out of the first book, The Amulet of Samarkand. I was a little surprised to find out that its producer is none other than the late Sydney Pollack. I am not very familiar of him, but after seeing the news of his passing with no knowledge that he was going to be the producer of this movie is a random oddity. I would have loved to see this novel on the big screen with his experienced hand.
Speaking of movies - I have heard that the game Bioshock is ready to make a splash on the big screen. I find this immensely exciting, although I have never played the game. The soundtrack for Bioshock is incredible (especially Cohen's Masterpiece, in which I have been diligently working on for a while now). I like the premise of the game, with a city deep beneath the sea and science with no limits. I hope the movie turns out well.
Since this entry is a myriad of oddities, I will continue with the last random bit. Monday morning (I was terribly tired and I was out of town in a comfortable hotel room ^^), I lay back down to sleep - and slept easily. Fragments of dreams bubbled on and off, my waking moments punctuating the sequences, but sleep quickly returned me to the dreams. Before I finally woke up, it was the craziest dream experience I have ever had. Of course, waking up to a unfamiliar setting could have contributed to its strangeness and retrospectively the experience was cool, but the moment was pretty frightening. I really tried to wake up, and I usually don't have difficulties (hey, just crack open yer eyes - yes, you're groggy, but awake), but I could not then. I could not move at all, and there was a storm of sounds at my ears like the rush of a raging river or an orchestra blasting nonsense. In a parallel sense to the other dream I had last year, I was very convinced that there was a presence before me. I cracked open my eyes (those I could actually move ^^), but fear flooded into me. Unlike the other dream, the being was malevolent; I did not want to see this being at all. I squeezed my eyes shut and listened to my heart thump. Every fifth or so beat seemed to send a strange spasm (I really don't know how to describe it...) across me. I don't remember when the feeling passed, but it was pretty realistic.
I would be curious to know what my outward reactions really were. Besides, was I really awake, or was I simply in a dream of my current surroundings? There are a number of questions the scientist in me asks. My more imaginative nature wonders how it would be like to live in a world if I did actually feel presences like that, whether people or ghostly/spirit-type beings.
